Description
The ”Ready-to-use” Compact Dry X-BC plate from HyServe combines the properties of chromogenic dry media and gel contact plates. It is used for the quantitative detection of Bacillus cereus in food samples. The bacterium Bacillus cereus produces gram-positive spores and is commonly found in soil and water. Consequently, it relatively easily enters the food processing chain. Bacillus cereus can contaminate food; furthermore, its emetic and diarrheagenic enterotoxins cause vomiting and diarrhea after consumption. Routine testing procedures for Bacillus cereus are therefore recommended. A simple and certified method for this is: Compact Dry X-BC. After application of the sample (1 ml), the dehydrated Compact Dry X-BC plate becomes gel-like. The sample self-diffuses evenly. No further actions, such as manual spreading, are required.
Compact Dry X-BC has been validated according to ISO 16140 against the reference method (EN ISO 7932:2004) for the detection of Bacillus cereus. Compact Dry X-BC is also MicroVal (no. 2011-LR41) and NordVal (no. 045) approved. The finished plate can therefore be applied routinely by certified users.
Incubation time and temperature: 24 ± 2 hours at 30 ± 1 °C
Shelf life: 18 months after manufacture.
Storage: Room temperature (+ 1 to + 30 °C)
Sample preparation Viable count
in water or liquid food
Drop 1 ml of sample (dilute if necessary) onto the center of the Compact Dry plate.
Viable count in solid food
Add buffer solution to the sample and homogenize with a Stomacher®. Drop 1 ml of sample (dilute if necessary) onto the center of the dry pad on the Compact Dry plate.
Viable count in swab test samples
Use the cotton swab to wipe the surface, insert it into the device with elution solution. Drop 1 ml of elution solution (dilute if necessary) onto the center of the Compact Dry plate. It is recommended to use ”Swab for Compact Dry” offered by HyServe ID no. 1 002 952/3 (40/240 pieces).
Test instructions
Open the lid and drop 1 ml of sample onto the center of the Compact Dry plate.
The sample automatically and evenly diffuses into the pad, converting the dried pad into a gel within seconds.
Replace the lid on the plate and write the necessary information on the memorandum section.
Turn the covered plate upside down and place it in the incubator.
After incubation, count the number of light blue/blue colonies. Placing white paper under the plate helps in counting the colonies.
