MISCO digital beer refractometer with Plato, dissolved solids, density d20/20, Brewer’s points and propylene glycol freezing point °C scales

This beer refractometer has it all! It features a Plato scale, a dissolved solids scale, a specific gravity (D 20/20) scale, a Brewer’s points scale, and a propylene glycol freezing point scale. Use the dissolved solids scale to accurately measure the sugar content of the wort used in making beer. The dissolved solids, points, and specific gravity scales are based on mathematical relationships between actual wort sugars and refractive index, providing a more accurate indication of true sugar content. They can be used interchangeably with Brix, °Plato, and top-of-the-range units in calculators and equations. The Plato scale is based on the relationship between sucrose and refractive index. The propylene glycol scale is ideal for measuring propylene glycol heat transfer fluid (antifreeze) in wort chillers and cooling systems.

Whether you are a brew chemist working for a multinational brewery, or a passionate homebrewer crafting one-of-a-kind beers in your own home, the goal of the MISCO digital beer refractometer is to help you by providing the most accurate possible beer measurements from start to finish.

Misco’s digital beer refractometer is not just a Brix refractometer. MISCO Pro-Brewing scales™ are scientifically derived from a beer model with a very complex sugar profile, which is strongly influenced by maltose and specific to beer. There is very little sucrose in beer, and measurements and temperature compensation are naturally much more accurate than sucrose-based Brix refractometers(See our free technical bulletins under the Materials tab).Furthermore, because the refractometer is made specifically for beer, the user no longer needs to use a refractometer correction factor when converting dissolved solids or specific gravity readings in beer calculators.

Fast, convenient, and easy to use, the MISCO digital beer refractometer requires only a fraction of the sample size needed by traditional hydrometers. Simply place one or two drops of beer on the stainless steel stage and press a button. The beer refractometer provides an almost immediate digital reading on a large backlit LCD display. The digital display eliminates the subjectivity involved in interpreting where a boundary line crosses small scale divisions.

Precision is guaranteed thanks to MISCO’s low environmental impact; its proven Optical Engine®, which is the core of every digital beer refractometer. The Optical Engine features high-precision sapphire optics, the second hardest material after diamond, which improves the speed and accuracy of temperature measurements. Competing digital refractometers use only glass prisms. A 1,024-element high-resolution detector array contains more than eight times the resolution of competing 128-element low-definition detector arrays. Misco’s array has a resolution of more than 3,256 pixels per inch (ppi) compared to the 400 dpi resolution in competing digital refractometers. The result is an instrument that is more robust and more accurate.

Non-linear temperature compensation is specific to beer and sucrose, and automatically ensures that liquids read between 10 and 40 °C (50 to 104 °F) are measured accurately. Calibration is automatic and does not require the use of special calibration solutions or tools. The beer refractometer calibrates automatically to water and is ready to use within seconds. No more screws to turn and nothing to adjust. The result can also be localized to display in English, German, Spanish, French, and Russian.
